AT/3A

I was planning on having more updates up until this point… but I just decided to steam roll through it and get this in decent shape before I showed anything on it. This is my 1st custom, so I did take some time piecing it together. Some nights I would just que up the Star Wars marathon that was on SPIKE a few weeks ago on my DVR, and just stare at it planning my next move.

If you haven’t guessed it yet, this is Ashley Woods 3A Bamabaland Anniversary figure, combined with an AT/AT Driver from Star Wars, to form my 1st custom named AT/3A. This is just in its primed state, but I thought it looked in good enough shape to throw out there. Still have to clean it up a bit and smooth it down in some spots, maybe over the Labor Day weekend I can get this finished off with a nice paint job.

STEP 1NE: Make Mistakes

I started off the night working with rubber stamp pads to make some of the forms for my 1st custom adventure. It seemed like it would work, it was easy to cut, kept its form mostly, and flexible. Unfortunately it didn’t work out that way. For smaller stuff i think it might work, like some sort of bands or something in the belt/strap realm, but it wasn’t working on this piece of puzzle. It seems like it only comes in a defined thickness and what I needed to construct was double the thickness of what the rubber stamp sheets where. Also being flexible, the rubber stamp material shifted slightly when cut, that pairing up with a second piece wasn’t lining up the way I wanted it to. So I went with some plastic sheets that I picked up at Tap Plastics here in SF, which worked out perfectly with what I had in mind.

Still a work in progress, so not really saying what this is just yet. As time goes on and I start assembling the pieces together, it will be evident. But for now… seeecrets!

Oh ya, after looking at the above picture, I forgot how much crazy glue sucks to get off your fingers.

1st CUSTOM DOWNCOUNT!

I have been sitting way too long on my 1st Anniversary Bambaland figures, thinking of what I want to do with the 2 I have left. Hmm… I kind of want to say what I have in mind now, but I think I am going to hold off until I get to a good stage. I’m a little new at this, so bear with me, but I do plan on at least updating once or twice a week until it is finished hoping for early August sometime. All the #SDCC tweets lately have inspired me to get the ball rollin and put some other stuff on the back burner instead.

Found

Growing up during the late 70’s forward, Star Wars was a defining moment in my childhood as well as it is today. I remember the day riding my sweet BMX bike to the theatre to watch Return of the Jedi when i was barely 6… So naturally I wanted every kind of Star Wars figure I could get my hands on. I didn’t have a huge collection, enough to wage some epic battles though. One of my favorites was the ATAT Driver pictured here. And like any young child, I definitely put them through some hellish battles, especially when 4th of July would roll around. Whether it be firecrackers, bottle rockets, or my personal favorite use of torture, the dreaded Black Snakes, I had endless amounts of fun. Recently I came across this wounded soldier, and knew he needed to be dusted off for display and join the ranks of my Desktop Army.

Luckily I have an AD-AT for him to roll in. Pew-Pew-Pew!!!

Berties

Berties finally hit the streets a couple weeks ago and I happened to snab me a pair, a Dirty Deeds figure, and a Marine JEA Division one as well. Both come with a little square sidekick, the SQ Dirty & SQ Marine, little bots that help carry supplies. As usual, attention to detail is spot on in true 3A fashion. The chamber on Dirty Deeds handgun actually moves around, a nice subtle touch. It also comes with a machete with a few decapitated heads as well. The Marine has a 3 barrel gatling gun, instead of the 5 barrel that my Bramble holds. They turned out to be a little smaller than what I thought they would be, especially when comparing it to a Bramble. For some odd reason I envisioned them being bigger than a Bramble, but after comparing the size of the arms, looks like its in the right proportion. The pouches seem a tad bit big as well, but I’m guessing those are already made to an industry standard to fit various figures. Overall very happy with my purchases, a couple nice additions to my 3A Force. Looking forward to score some Dropcloths at some point in the near future to fill up the ranks, and some sort of Armstrong as well.

Bertie / Bramble size comparison.

These little SQ dudes have a goofy ass expression on their face that is adorable. I particulary like the Marine version on the right with the black eye. Reminds me of Petey from the Little Rascals.

Say Cheeese!!!
